After you have studied and reviewed the first website, take the online test too see how much you really know. Good Luck!
Parents' Corner
To help prepare for the unit test on Monday, I am encouaging students to look at the Solar System website to review important concepts learned in the unit. They are required to "identify components of the solar system, including the sun, the earth, and other planets, natural satellites, comets, asteroids, and meteoroids, and describe their physical characteristics in qualitative terms" (The Ontario Curriculum: Science, p. 122) and be able to apply these concepts on their test. Please encourage your child to also take the online quiz as it reviews important concepts that may appear on their test.

Language Arts
Here is a fun quiz for you all to take to see how well you understand how to use punctuation and proper grammar in a sentence. This will not be worth any marks, but I reccomend that everyone participates and takes this quiz as it will help you better understand the lesson in Language Arts next week.
Parents' SectionAs part of our grade 6 Language Arts Curriculum, it is expected that students "use punctuation appropriately to communicate their intended meaning in longer, more complex sentences, with a focus on the use of: commas to separate words in a list or after an introductory word or phrase; quotation marks in a dialogue; and some uses of the colon, semi-colon, and brackets" (The Ontario Curriculum: Language Arts, p 116). It is therefore beneficial for your children to take this quiz, determining any areas that he/she may be having difficulties. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me via e-mail or call me anytime at the school.
Mathematics
Here is another game to help work on your multiplication skills. The game is timed, so keep practicing and try to solve the puzzle in the least amound of time!
Parents' SectionAs part of the grade 6 Mathemtics Curriculum, students are required to "solve problems involving the multiplication of whole numbers using a variety of tools and strategies" (The Ontario Curriculum: Mathematics, p. 88). This game, as well as Multiplication Matho, can help students practice their mulipication skills, ultimately improving their basic skills, allowing them to become successful in more complicated math concepts.
Social Studies
I know we have all been working hard at imporving our mapping skills, so here is a fun online game that will also help you perfect this skill. Keep practicing and try to beat the game in the least amount of time. Make sure you read all instructions before you begin.
Parents' SectionThis is an excellent game that all students can use to improve their mapping skills. It is a requirement in the grade 6 Social Studies Curriculum that students "use latitude and longitude coordinates to locate major citites and countries of the world" (The Ontario Curriculum: Social Studies, p. 48). This activity is included to help students perfect their skills of locating an area on a map using longitude and latitude coordinates, but finding major cities and being able to locate them on a map will be covered over the next 2 classes. Be sure to encourage your child to practice this skill or they will not be ready to build upon these skills in the next few lessons.
